![]() Llian was really glad that the Portkey had worked. He had been with his future self for a few days now and had gotten to know Juls' younger self recently. From what few personal details he let himself figure out, he knew that he and Juls were expecting a child in the future, his second. That was pretty interesting. He was glad to see that he seemed to get along with Juls at this age, too. This Juls didn't have much experience with seeing the world though, and Llian certainly did not want to deprive her of that. Everyone should get a chance to go places and see things. That was why he was glad his older self had helped him make a Portkey (thank Merlin, because he had tried on his own, and he really didn't know if it would work). However, he thought his older self had something planned for the future Juls, which was probably the only reason why he'd helped. Still, it was pretty cool. And it was set to send them back at a certain time too, but they had ample time to explore the steps and the shopping. When they arrived, Llian smiled at Juls, saying, "Welcome to Italy. Right now we're in the 'Spanish Steps'." He was speaking French to her, seeing as it was the language they both were fluent in. Having spent time with her, he really enjoyed her company, and he was glad to be able to take her out somewhere. |

It had definitely been an interesting, confusing few days. Her older self had honestly been extremely close-mouthed on everything that had happened to her before she was this age, but there were a few things that really calmed her. For one, she was going by Juls. Which meant that was her real name, right? For another, she really liked her boyfriend. Both of them, so she didn't end up getting married to some old rich guy. She was happy in her future, and that was what mattered. It did shake her a little that she was a wolf. That was the furthest thing that she had ever thought about in all of her possibilities, that the reason she had that scar on her shoulder - she'd been shown that it fades a lot - was because she was bitten. And that she couldn't remember, because she was a wolf. And that full moon was coming up. But if she was still here? Then she had her older self to help her through it and if she thought too much about it, she just grew really scared. So she didn't. Instead, she focused on learning to play in the kitchen, making a few messes. That was fun, especially when Llian was over to help. And exploring with him had been fun too, but when he said that they were going to Italy? She was so excited! Juls had never used a porkey before, so she was a little wary of it. Over all it was a weird feeling, and she had only barely managed to keep her balance, reaching out to him before she was looking around herself in awe. "It's so beautiful." She responded, more comfortable in her own language than her accented English. There was just this unexplainable excitement in being somewhere new, to be standing on land she had never seen before...she was brinning, trying to take it all in as much as possible. "Why are they called the Spanish Steps if we're in Italy?" |

Llian had reached out a hand to steady her when she looked around, happy to see that she seemed to like it. He knew that she wanted to see a lot of different places, considering she'd told him as much, so it was gratifying to see the look of joy on her face. "I'm glad you like it," he said. When she asked why they were called the Spanish Steps, he took a step over to them, motioning for her to come with him and explaining as he went. "Well," he began, "it started when they were built. See, they join the Piazza di Spagna and the Piazza Trinità dei Monti. The Piazza di Spagna literally meaning 'the Plaza of Spain'. It's where the Spanish Embassy was at the time, so these became the Spanish steps," he said. "Now, it's a pretty popular shopping place, a lot of designer stores everywhere. Do you want to go shopping at all?" he asked. |

Juls immediately followed Llian when he took a step away, still looking around her. There were a lot of things to see, a lot of detail to take it. It really was pretty place, very grand and elegant. Naturally though, her attention was on him as he started to answer her question. "Oh. That makes sense. You said it's where the Embassy was at the time, where is it now?" He hadn't gotten bored with her questions yet, so Juls didn't have any qualms asking them. It was definitely a difference from where she had been when they first arrived, but she was comfortable. "If that's what you want to do." Juls then responded with a grin, listening to his suggestion. She didn't have any money, but window-shopping and trying ridiculous stuff on (when the Baptistes weren't looking) was most of the fun. |

Llian watched Juls as she followed him. He loved bringing people to new places and watching the expressions on their faces as they saw the things he had seen for the first time at one point or another. And more often than not, he found more things to marvel at. Although he loved seeing new places, it was never bad to take a second visit somewhere (or third...or fourth...). This was certainly no exception. "The Embassy now is..." He tried to think. He knew this answer. His dad had talked about it a couple of summers ago when they were standing at this very place... He looked around the plaza, trying to see if there was anything to jog his memory. And then he saw it, and smiled: the Spanish flag was hanging above one of the doorways to a very old, ornate building. "It's actually still here," he replied, pointing to the flag. "There's the Spanish flag right there, and they never moved it." She agreed with his shopping idea, but he just shrugged. "Only if you want to. I mean, window shopping is fun, because... it's all high-end designer stuff, and I don't know about you, but I didn't bring hundreds of pounds for the sole pupose of spending it on a jacket," he laughed. |

Juls was basically in awe. She'd never been anywhere other than the strip around her house and obviously, the house. So seeing the structure, the architect, the color from the flowers... She leaned down to touch the petal of one from the pots they had on the stairs, and then looked up when Llian said he found it. So she just popped back up again and followed his gaze, taking in the building. "Are there Embassies from all over the country somewhere around? Do they all have special places and stairs and flags over their buildings?" She was just curious how it all worked. "What are the Embassies for?" When he said that the 'designer' things cost hundreds of pounds, she looked down and pulled out the pockets of the jeans she was wearing. They weren't so pressed any more, though she'd continued to wash them. Her older self didn't have clothes that fit her. But if she showed up dressed the way she was at home? Merlin she'd be in so much trouble. It wasn't so much the clothes, it was more the state they were in. Unpressed. But her point was that she didn't have anything, so it wasn't a problem. Instead she just smiled impishly at him, "It'd have to be a really cute jacket." Edited by Little_Juls, Nov 6 2009, 01:56 AM.

Llian nodded. "I believe they are all over the world," he said. "I think there are a bunch of Embassies in every country. Probably not all in particularly significant places, but most likely with the flags," he told her. At least, that was what he believed. He could have been wrong, but he really didn't think he was. When she asked what the Embassies replied, he said, "They're basically centers for international relations between countries." He didn't know a whole lot about them, just that they existed. Llian really wasn't interested in politics or things like that. He just wanted to see the world and learn culture firsthand. Llian laughed. "Who knows? Maybe it will be..." He couldn't honestly justify anyone spending that much money on one piece of clothing. It just seemed ridiculous to him. "Only one way to find out." He started in the direction of the shops. |

Juls listened, curious as to what it was all about. She figured she'd definitely be looking out for flags now though, when she was around places. It was really interesting to her. "International relations." She repeated, murmuring to herself as she looked over the older building and then back at the flag. To her, all this information was really interesting. Basically, anything she didn't know was just another door opening to learn about, and she loved to learn. There were so many things that she needed to catch up with, and so much she wanted to see. Not enough time. Hearing Llian laugh brought her attention back to him, a smile immediately rising to her lips at the sound of it, and when he set off, she turned completely and hurried to catch up. "I don't get one thing though. Designer means it's expensive, right? But you can find the concept in clothes that aren't as expensive. If they cost so much not a lot of people would wear those clothes and...well, isn't that the point of a clothing store? To sell their designs?" |

Llian nodded. "Exactly," he said. He was glad that he could at least help her out with some things. He knew, based on brief conversation, that she didn't have her memory. So he figured that whatever he could do to give her some knowledge of the world would help. He actually really liked teaching people things, which was probably why his older self became a Hogwarts Professor (which he had mixed feelings on: on one hand, it was awesome, but on the other? It meant he had to follow the rules). They had started down the street with all the shops, making easy conversation. He liked how well they got along, even before they actually were going to meet in the future. It was just proof that their personalities genuinely meshed. "Yeah, I don't really get that either," he said. "I think designers just can charge more because they think of things first and start the trends. And the copies are supposedly that; just copies." He shrugged. "I think it's a load of crap, personally. I think designers basically rob people, and there's no need to spend that much money on clothing." He paused in front of a boutique with mannequins wearing expensive-looking men and women's clothing. "But that doesn't mean it's not fun to look," he said with a grin. "Want to go in here? Try on some stuff? Aggravate the shopkeeper? People hate when you go in and you clearly have no intent to buy." |

Juls nodded. "I know that like...most of the things that the Baptistes made me wear are expensive but the stuff I wear when I'm not going out of the house or seeing anyone aren't as much and it's more comfortable." She always called them the Baptistes, not mom, not dad, because it had been made very clear to her that they were not her parents. It didn't really bother her, she just wished she knew who her parents were. Or, if she had siblings somewhere else. Or if her name was actually Julianna... The questions never stopped, but none of them were answered either. She'd just stopped asking. When Llian stopped, Juls looked at the store he had stopped in front of, and smiled slightly. It had some cute things in the front, she had to admit. When he suggested that they go in and aggravate the shop keeper though, she laughed. "You are horrible." But, it sounded like fun. So she added a stipulation, "If you let me pick out something for you to try on, no questions or complaints, and I get to see it once it's on." |

Llian nodded, although that made him a bit curious. "Why do they make you wear expensive stuff?" He supposed that some people were really picky, but that just seemed a bit ridiculous and somewhat pretentious. "Especially if you like the more comfortable stuff better." He shrugged. "Seems natural to me to just do what you want." His parents could care less about designer clothing or looking 'proper'. In fact, both of them had pretty much actively chosen to leave that from their own families, his mom a bit more than his dad. But he could, of course, greatly enjoy shopping around for designer clothes they were never going to buy. "I'm not horrible; I just know how to have fun," he returned lightly. "But all right. You can pick out something for me that I will try on and let you see. Now, what about you? Do I get to pick out your clothes?" He grinned. There could be worse things in life than to have an attractive girl wear whatever he picked out for her. |

"Because they want me to get married." Juls responded easily, opening the door and heading in as she continued to talk. "I don't get to do what I want, I do what they say and I have a name, a family, and a roof over my head. Simple enough." It really had only started bothering her recently. The older she got, the more available she was to this whole 'marriage' idea and she really, really didn't like that. But now? She could ignore that. "Yessir. Just fun." She agreed candidly, looking around. There were a lot of options that would result in the most amusement, but then there were things that she was sure if he put on, he would look pretty much amazing in. So she was debating. "I suppose that's only fair." Juls turned to grin back at him. She was definitely curious to see what he'd pick out in terms of what he'd want to see her in to 'have fun', definitely. |

Llian raised his eyebrows at the comment as they walked into the shop. "They want you...to get married?" he asked. "That's kind of... You're only what, sixteen?" He sighed. "Let me guess: pureblood?" His tone was mild, but he really did think that was the case. He didn't know any other group of modern society that behaved like that. And it wasn't like he seriously scorned people for being pureblood: he was pureblood, for Merlin's sake. But a lot of the times he believed their ways to be a bit outdated. As he spoke with her, he looked around at the shop. There were definitely some nice clothes, and he headed for the women's section first, intent on picking out an outfit for her. The shopkeeper immediately had a watchful, wary eye on them when she saw them browsing the clothes: teenagers were a designer clothes boutique's worst nightmare. Raising a sharply penciled eyebrow, she crossed her arms and asked them if they needed help with anything. Llian replied that no, they didn't, and she returned to just watching them. He went over and picked up a svelte minidress first that sported a bold leapord print. Interesting. "How about this one?" he asked with a laugh. |

Juls smiled, "Just turned sixteen...today." And she got to go to Italy for her birthday. How cool was that?? "That's why we got kicked out." She laughed, not bothered at all by his assumption about the pureblood thing. "Yeah, exactly. They're hoping to marry me off to some old man with lots of money so they can be supported for the rest of their lives. Nice, right?" Though she was cheerfully answering him, there was a note of something lacing through her words. Just a little something, nothing really noticeably. Truth was, it did bother her. She didn't like that track. But they were in a clothes shop, and she was immediately interested. Most of the mens clothing wasn't really wild or anything, but thick, random strips caught her attention, and she was about to go in that direction when Llian asked her about something. She turned around, and her immediately reaction was to laugh. "I could make it work." |

"Really? Today?" Llian asked, surprised. "Happy birthday." He was sort of irked at his older self for not telling him that before he left. How was he supposed to know that the date his older self had planned was for her birthday? He wasn't a mind reader. Well, actually? His older self was, but that was besides the point. He would have wished her a happy birthday earlier if he'd known. She was pureblood. That didn't surprise him at all, and his assumption clearly didn't bother her. "That's just not right," he said indignantly. 'You shouldn't have to marry someone for social reasons." He shook his head. "They're so weird about that kind of thing. I'm Pureblood too? And my mum and dad got married because they love each other, and it was still an issue because..the marriage wasn't approved or whatever by my mother's parents. And it was an even bigger issue when they got a divorce." But honestly? The divorce was the best thing they ever did. "But at least you don't end up doing that?" he offered. 'I mean, clearly you don't, if we're dating in the future." She laughed at the dress he picked out for, and when she said she could make it work, he smirked. "Oh really? I'd like to see that." Yes, he would very much like to see her put on the scrap of boldly patterned fabric. |

Juls nodded, and then reconsidered for a moment, "Well. It's the birthday they gave me. I actually don't know when my real birthday is. But whatever, it works. Thanks, though." His reaction to her marriage comment made her turn and look at him for a moment, a little surprised. He said he was pureblood too, and she listened curiously to the story of his parents, and for a moment, she forgot what her future was like, defending it halfheartedly, softly. "I have to though. If I didn't have them, I wouldn't have anywhere to go." Anyone to be, basically. But Llian reminded her, that they ended up together. And it was a moment before she smiled again, thinking about it, "I guess that's true, huh? Thank merlin!" She was able to go back to focusing on the clothes though, quite enjoying the look on his face when he basically challenged her. So she simply said, "I need accessories and shoes." Girl couldn't walk around in a little dress like that without some kind of other make-a-statement-fierce things as well, right? She just wandered back into the racks of men's clothes. |

It must have been hard not having her memory. Llian couldn't even imagine the difficulties that came with it, especially depending on other people for something so common as a birthday. "It's pretty cool that you get to have a birthday on Halloween, though," he said. "And hey: we're being appropriate for it and dressing up." Instead of being ghosts or superheroes they were putting on designer clothes, but it was the same principle. He could see her point about having to listen to them because they had taken her in, but he still didn't believe it was right to get rid of her basic freedoms for their own monetary gain. Actually, it was pretty disturbing. But he was willing to move right on when she did. "Exactly. So everything works out all right," he said with a smile. She mentioned needing accessories and shoes, and Llian was then completely lost. He had absolutely no idea what would go with the dress. She was disappearing amongst the men's clothes, and he just shrugged. "I'll try my best." He looked down at the dress, trying to think about someone wearing it and what the woman would wear. He ventured over towards the stilettos. Tall, thin, and black. That would probably look good. |

Juls nodded. The first time she'd gotten to celebrate it had been fun. Everyone was dressing up, obviously, there were parties everywhere. She had to laugh when he said they were dressing up for it too, and she responded, "I'm sure we could scare someone with these outfits too." Of course, she didn't actually say it loud enough for the shopkeeper to hear. And everything did turn out right. She really could see why her older self liked him, because his younger self was a lot of fun. She didn't think she'd smiled this much in the past year. She didn't know about before that so she didn't judge further. Juls laughed when she saw that he looked a little not certain about it when she said she wanted shoes, and when she glanced back at him, he was looking at shoes she probably would break her neck wearing. Oh well, she would manage somehow. "What do you think about the color red?" She called, grinned as she plucked a hat off a mannequin and set it on her head, pursing her lips at him, "And hats?" |

Llian grinned. "What, my fashion sense is that bad?" he asked. "I don't think we'd scare as many people as you'd like to think." Actually? With her in that dress, he was pretty convinced that 'scared' wasn't going to be a thought in anyone's mind. She was an attractive girl, and the design of the clothing was definitely one that would make someone stop and stare. She was picking out something else, and he saw her over by the hats when he looked, trying one on. "Red? Good. Hats? Also good," he commented. Then, shrugging, he added, "I'm pretty much up for anything." He couldn't really think of an outfit he'd refuse to try on, because why not? They were just having fun. He picked up one of the pairs of shoes for her and then moved onto the jewelry, selecting a couple of gaudy silver pieces, more for the sake of being obnoxious than anything else. |

"No...' Juls laughed. "Just unique." People who wore dresses like that were trying to stand out, trying to get attention. Though she didn't tend to like doing that, preferring to avoid attention if at all possible, in the future it didn't matter as much. And she could make the dress work, as long as he picked out her size. Along with the hat, Juls picked up a pair of bright scarlet leather shoes, a black collared shirt and socks, and the bright red pimp-suit that'd caught her eye to begin with. It just made her laugh to see people wearing things like that, honestly. Some people could pull it off, some people looked ridiculous. But really? It was all about the confidence you put into an outfit, she thought. If you had the mindset that you looked hot, then people are going to get that vibe and think so too. And since he had chosen something a little less casual? She did too. Hands full, Juls headed over to the dressing rooms and hung things up, and then came back out to find a tie. With red and black...she really didn't think he needed one, if he kept the shirt unbuttoned a little, but she picked one out anyways. Besides, ties were fun. That finished, she dumped it in his room as well and headed over to him. "Hey you. Your style has been chosen. Go put it onnnnn." Okay, so she was a little too amused by the whole process. |
